Do you have a boat or a personal watercraft?
Make it smooth sailing by adding insurance protection!
As summer starts, it is a great time to reassess your insurance coverage, especially on your boat and personal watercraft.
Boat ownership comes along with its own set of unique risks. Getting coverage for these risks can help protect your warm weather fun! Click the video below to learn an overview about boat insurance.
Available Coverage Types:
*Disclaimer: Available coverage will vary by insurance carrier
- Fuel Spill and Wreckage Removal Debris from accidents on the water can create environmental and safety hazards. Watercraft policies can cover fuel spills and wreckage removal at the limit of liability
Physical Damage Coverage Types:
- Personal Property and Unattached Equipment Coverage With personal effects coverage, fishing gear and other personal property are covered up to a certain value. Plus, unattached equipment such as water skis, deck chairs, anchors, safety equipment, and marine electronics can also be covered. If needed, you can often purchase more coverage for a small additional premium. Some insurance carriers include this coverage at no additional cost.
- Emergency Assistance Reimbursement is available for on-water towing, labor, and basic emergency services (such as delivery of fuel or a battery) if the boat or personal watercraft is disabled while on the water.
- Pet Coverage This can cover costs if cat or dog that is injured because of a boating accident.
- New Boat Price Protection You can get the total price protection for boats two years old or younger. That means you get the same features, equipment, and options as the boat that was lost, regardless of the cost.
- Roadside Assistance A boat or personal watercraft trailer, along with the vehicle that it is towed with, can both be covered for a certain level of reimbursement.
- Personal Property Protection Additional Fishing Equipment coverage can be purchased when at least one watercraft on your policy carries physical damage coverage.
- Watercraft Liability Coverage As with auto insurance, personal liability coverage provides coverage to other boaters and boat owners in the event you are held legally responsible for an accident on the water. This includes paying for boat repairs or replacing someone else’s property. It further covers the costs of their medical care, lost wages, and other costs of a boating accident for which the insured is at fault. It will also help pay for wreckage removal and fuel spill cleanup costs.
- Medical Payments This helps cover medical expenses such as hospital bills and related care if the insured is legally responsible for an accident that injures someone else. Coverage can cover you and your passengers, including water skiers and tubers, no matter who is at fault.
- Physical Damage If the boat or watercraft is stolen or damaged, this coverage helps pay for repairs or the replacement of the watercraft, its engine, the trailer, and any permanently attached equipment up to the agreed value of the watercraft. It also automatically includes coverage for unattached equipment, personal effects, and emergency assistance. In some states, pet coverage is automatically included with physical damage coverage. Extra protection for additional fishing equipment is an option when at least one watercraft on your policy includes physical damage coverage.
- Uninsured/Underinsured Watercraft Bodily Injury Coverage If you or your passengers are injured by an uninsured or underinsured boater, this coverage helps pay for medical treatment, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other costs associated with the accident. Since boat insurance is not mandatory, some boater fail to carry any. This puts everyone on the water at risk.
